Harsh Times – Low Morale

Motivation
Employees are feeling the crunch of the recession and who wouldn’t with downsizing, mass-layoffs and cutbacks on employee benefits just around the corner. One might be tempted to sympathize with lost co-workers, well nothing is wrong with it as long as it doesn’t interfere with your work.
We humans feel the urge to sympathize with others in their times of need but that should not influence the ability to effectively perform in your job. Accounting jobs are to most boring but as testament to the importance of the part you play in the company, you still have a job so cherish it and just keep on doing you job as if your life depended on it(it does… literally). Hard huh, but you can try to work with management to improve on the low morale with some low cost measures such as weekly meetings and briefings that allows each and every individual to express views and fears, discussing it with everybody else. This way, you are assured that everybody is on the same plane and everybody is still in touch with the reality that life is hard and you are there for each other.
