Accounting-its History

Accounting is said to be one of the oldest professions in the world. Businesses have been practicing accounting for thousands of years, the first forms of which are cuneiform tablets. They come from the fertile crescents, and they showed evidence of accounting practices. John Gouge published the first known book in the English language in accounting in 1543, followed in 1635 by Richard Dafforne who wrote “The Merchant’s Mirrour”. It contains references to early books on the science of accountancy.
